You've Gotten a "Hall Pass"
Remember back to grade school or high school when class was a drag and for some legit or illegitimate reason you got a “hall pass”?
You were able to wander the halls unaccounted for and absent from the classroom responsibilities. You didn’t have to listen to the teacher. You didn’t have to participate. You didn’t even have to think.
What if it was okay and perhaps even preferable to have a “hall pass” from the world right now?
I know you might think, “but that is escapist!” But what if it wasn’t..? What if you were not required to take a “side” in the debate on one issue or another? What if it was okay to be quiet?
What if what your heart, body, and soul needed most in this moment was fresh air, rest, and peace. What if what you needed now was just a long hug or a good laugh?
What if you are not being asked to take sides at all but merely to love and be?
Spirit is trying to hand us a “hall pass.” To say, step away from the fear and drama in the world.
Even if you can’t take the hall pass for more than an hour today or even five minutes, give it a try. Drop everything to do with the outer world and it’s unrest presently and come back to a place of peace - inside of you. Turn off your phone, computer and TV. Put down your books and papers and just be quiet and listen. All news will still be there tomorrow.
Stop speaking and just breathe for a minute.
Stop planning, evaluating or worrying in your mind and just listen to your heart.
What song is your heart singing right now?
Often my heart plays this song from Sesame Street that Kermit sang called “Rainbow Connection.” I don’t know why, but it just does. What song does your heart play? What is it playing now?
I imagine a few minutes of your heart’s song might sooth the parts of you that are weary. And if your heart isn’t singing right now, feel free to borrow my song for while - lol.
Being alive and a human in the world is exhausting.
Let your heart hum it’s tune for a few moments and curl around your precious “hall pass” and know that it’s okay to wander the halls of your heart for a while.
